"It feels good, out here with the guys, it was a different feeling, it was special and I though the guys did a phenomenal job we did the conditioning test at 6 am, they bounced back they were really resilient and they were flying around making some big plays it was exciting." Caden Coots/falcons quarterback "I would like to just see our team be consistent, everyday get better at every drill and every period , everything we are doing we are getting better , we are not looking forward to one other thing we are focused on the right now. so if we can do that and be consistent in everything that we are doing going through camp then we will have a successful camp and we will have a successful season. Permian quartet moves to Saturdays with UTPB

Brandon Bailey, Joshua Nguyen, Trace Notley and Robby Washington spent a majority of their high school careers under the Friday Night Lights of Ratliff Stadium. They will all embark on a new experience in the fall — Saturday Night Lights. Bailey, Nguyen, Notley and Washington signed their letters of intent to play for the UTPB during national signing day on Wednesday at the Permian High School library. “It’s the new Saturday Night Lights,” said Notley, who is a 6-foot-1, 255-pound offensive lineman. “It’s the new football in Odessa. I’m really excited about that.” The Panthers had eight players put ink to their respective futures on national signing day. Nguyen, who led the Panthers in tackles for back-to-back seasons, said it was more comforting having plenty family, friends and teammates there to support everyone that was signing. In his senior season Nguyen supplied 72 solo tackles, 92 assisted tackles, five interceptions, four pass breakups, three sacks and three

Carrigan, UTPB staff on recruiting trail ahead of national signing day

Posted: Monday, January 25, 2016 10:21 pm By Justin Lee jlee@oaoa.com  - 432-333-7773 It’s an interesting proposal Justin Carrigan is pitching. The first full recruiting season is winding down for the first head football coach in UTPB program history, as college football’s national signing day approaches on Feb. 3. For Carrigan, who is looking to bring in a new boon of talent ahead of the team’s inaugural season this fall, there isn’t much to sell to prospects in the way of program history. The Falcons have never played a down. As Carrigan tries to convince potential recruits to come to UTPB, he can’t point to any kind of long-standing reputation or history of past successes. He can’t tell them about any championships the Falcons have won, or any prestigious legacy they’d become a part of. But he can offer an opportunity to build all of that. “We’re having to convince the guys to come to something where there is no history, there is no tradition, there are no trophies on the wal

COLLEGE SPORTS: UTPB unveils new athletics logos (OAOA.COM)

Odessa American A new era at UTPB begins with a new look. The UTPB athletic department unveiled a new set of Falcons athletics logos and artwork at a press conference Thursday morning inside the gymnasium on campus. The new designs feature an original falcon illustration and a new lettering style, trimmed in the school’s familiar orange and black colors. The rebranding effort coincides with UTPB’s move to the Lone Star Conference this summer, and the launching of the Falcons football program, which is set to kick off its first game this fall. “With the recent and upcoming changes in our athletic department, we determined that an athletic logo reflective of our program was needed,” UTPB athletic director Steve Aicinena said in a university release. “The logo was to represent some important characteristics of our department and university: Strength, Determination and Ferocity. “As our University and athletic department have evolved, these characteristics have been key to our growth and

UTPB to get marching band in 2016

Not only will the University of Texas of the Permian Basin football team take the field for the first time this fall but the marching band will as well. The college has had a band for the last 10 years but they haven't had a marching band. Right now, about 40 students make up a wind ensemble but the Director of Bands, Clayton Harris, says he's still looking to recruit about 60 more members. To get those students, the band will go on a tour February 1 to find high school students who would like to become a part of the falcon marching band. "One of the things we do offer at UTPB is a very affordable education and a great value for your money. With the implementation of a marching program and the football team, it'll attract more students to our campus," said Harris. If you'd like to learn more about becoming part of the UTPB marching band, call the university at 552-4296. Video: http://www.newswest9.com/clip/12154048/utpb-to-get-marching-band-in-2016-1-20-16
