What can Brown do for UTPB in 27-6 Inaugural Win

Kristian Brown caught a pair of touchdown passes and nearly broke a kickoff return to the house and Brandon Infiesto racked up 102 yards on 16 carries and scored the team's first ever touchdown as UT Permian Basin Football took a 27-6 win in its first ever game as a program Saturday night against Sul Ross at Ratliff Stadium.

UTPB held the Lobos to a three-and-out on the first drive of the night, and a trio of big gainers moved the ball down the field. Infiesto ran for 11 yards facing 2nd and 10, Kameron Mathis found Brown for a 13 yard catch on 2nd and 8, and Mathis busted off a 24 yard QB keeper to the Sul ROss 4-yard line. Infiesto needed a pair of carries to cross the goal line for a 1-yard score and put the Falcons ahead.

THe UTPB defense stepped up big on the next Lobo offensive possession. Andraque Jones ended a 13-play drive with an interception for touchback to keep SUl Ross scoreless.

Brown broke out coming out of halftime, taking the second half kickoff 87 yards from in front of the UTPB goal line down to the Sul ROss 10. UTPB needed three plays to reach pay dirt when a scrambling Mathis found Brown in the back corner of the end zone for a 17-0 advantage.

Brown scored again on the team's first possession of the fourth quarter. Mathis found a streakingTerrell Davidson for a 67 yard gain down the middle of the field to the Sul Ross 15, and he hit Brown in the front right corner of the end zone on the next play to grab a 27-6 lead.

Mathis ended the night 13-25 for 163 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception to go with 31 rushing yards.

SUl Ross out-gained the Falcons 301-291 on offense on the night, but the UTPB defense stepped up all night despite being on the field for nearly 40 minutes. UTPB held Sul Ross to 4-16 on third-down conversions and kept the Lobos from converting on all four fourth-down efforts.

Emilio Solis was all over the field for the Falcons on D, leading the team with 10 tackles. DBDiameon Brewer added nine tackles on the night.

UTPB looks to start the year with a second straight win next week, hosting Arizona Christian. Kickoff at Ratliff Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
